Industrial Ethernet Switch Selection: Are You Asking the Right Questions?

Most control engineers select an industrial Ethernet switch for a project by checking three boxes: the required port count, the required data rate, and the required temperature range. These are necessary criteria. They are not sufficient ones. The questions that actually determine whether an industrial Ethernet switch performs reliably across its service life in an industrial environment are rarely asked during the specification process.
